CHRISTOPHER
WILLIAM Lawrie

For those who don’t know, I grew up in Santa Cruz, a community that is surrounded by art and self-expression in all its weird and wonderful forms. As my fascination with creativity grew, I was drawn to the artistic potential of the human body, whether it’s through dance, song, fashion, sculpture, portrait photography, or painting. While the digital age sent me in the direction of graphic design, skills that I am very thankful for, it made me miss the tactile and physical work of making art. My artistic journey led me to dive deep into the history, meaning, and techniques that I felt were being lost through technology. I started blending that foundational knowledge with my modern perspective, and I ended up with... a style that I very much love.

My current focus is on making beautiful and meaningful art pieces in a “Modern Classical” style… that are layered in meaning and musings found in the process of creating.
I play with traditional mathematical and geometric structures, comparing and contrasting them to the human body, using them to build, outline, and showcase natural, organic beauty. My work draws on inspirations from every corner of the art world, from the mythological grandeur to the rhythm of music, the drama of film, and the elegance of architecture.

In my art, you might find a nod to a god, a riff on a song, or a cinematography composition. My goal? To make you see the human body—and art itself—in a whole new light, sparking your imagination, while I put a smile on your face. My piece Apple (2024) was recently featured in the Monterey Museum of Art’s 2025 Biennial.
